Public Health White Paper - announcement to chief executives

Choosing Health, Making Healthy Choices Easier, the Government's White Paper on public health, is published today. The document sets out a new approach for delivering sustained improvement to the health of the public.

This improvement will be achieved by providing people with practical support to concerns about their health with practical support on their own terms, and by providing the context and environment to enable people to make healthier decisions.

Choosing Health Making Healthy Choices Easier contains significant policy initiatives in areas such as smoking in public places, the promotion of food to children and action to address sexually transmitted infections. Just as important is the role of the NHS and our partners in central and local government and the voluntary and commercial sectors in delivering on this crucial agenda.

NHS chief executives are asked to communicate the key themes and messages of the White Paper to all staff and key stakeholders. Other recipients may also wish to make this information available to staff in their organisations.
