NHS and social care interest
1. Vision and framework for adult social care (Gateway
reference 3303)
As part of an ongoing dialogue within the Department of Health, Antony
Sheehan has asked the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) to gather
views from stakeholders via the SCIE website on the current state of social
care for adults. These stakeholders include service users, carers, statutory
and non statutory organisations. Their views will inform the Department's
development of a new vision and framework to be consulted on later in
the year. The opportunity to comment ends on 30 June. Read

2. Prison health care: SHAs to lead the approval process
(Gateway reference 3267)
Following the successful transfer of prison health care to 18 trailblazing
PCTs in April 2004, the majority of Prison-PCT partnerships are applying
to transfer commissioning responsibility in April 2005. The document below
sets out guidance for approving the robustness of the partnerships to
take on the task. Ministers have agreed that SHAs will lead the approval
process alongside HMPS Area Managers. All PCTs with prisons will take
on this responsibility by April 2006 at the latest. Read

3. Domiciliary oxygen service (Gateway reference

Expressions of interest are been invited to tender for the new integrated
oxygen service contract (announced June 2003, to be introduced 2005) in
the Official Journal of the European Union. PCTs and trusts should be
developing local arrangements to support and manage change. Read

4. Framework for Partnership Action on Disability

Secretary of State for Health John Reid and chair of the Disability Rights
Commission Bert Massie, have announced a joint framework to help deliver
improvements for disabled people in health and social care including a
leaflet for hospital staff called You Can Make a Difference - Improving

9. Accelerated Development Programme (ADP) for support
workers in intermediate care sharing event - 8 July (Gateway number

This one-day sharing event is an opportunity for chief executives and
directors of health and social care organisations, together with participating
teams and strategic health communities, to discuss the findings of the
