3. Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) data quality
sign up (Gateway reference 2708)
Chief Executives are required to formally sign off the HES data relating
specifically to the 2003 calendar year which will be used for performance
ratings released in summer 2004. It is especially important that the clinical
and record linkage data is as complete as possible. The extremely tight
indicator timetable means it will not be possible to extend the submission
deadline of 27 February 2004 in any circumstances. Documents are at http://www.dh.gov.uk/PublicationsAndStatistics/Statistics/HospitalEpisodeStatistics/HESDataQuality/fs/en

4. Safety assurance role (Gateway reference 2326)
From April 2004, trusts and PCTs will receive key safety alerts by e-mail,
together with a simple electronic response form to complete, confirming
the action taken to implement the guidance. These forms will allow trusts
to assure their progress on safety issues and compare against other organisations,
simply by accessing the dedicated safety alert broadcast system website.
Email distribution will target alerts more effectively and simplify dissemination
within trusts therefore reducing the existing burden. It is important
that all trust and PCT chief executives nominate a liaison officer for
the new system by 5 March 2004. SHAs will contact chief executives shortly
to collect nominations. Read
