1. Ethics review of social care research: options appraisal
and guidelines (Gateway reference 3640)
This public consultation describes a number of options for a national
system of ethics review in social care and seeks views on their respective
strengths and weaknesses. Comments are welcomed from social care research
and practice communities, including service users, carers and their organisations.

An independent evaluation of the joint Department of Health and Macmillan
primary care cancer leads project was published in June 2004. The evaluation

3. Improving primary care services for disabled people

A Discussion Note For Primary Care Trusts has been published by Department
of Health and Disability Rights Commission. The publication supports primary
care trusts (PCTs) and primary care service providers in meeting Disability
Discrimination Act requirements. This includes new access provisions,

4. Keep warm, keep well campaign - winter 2004/5 (Gateway reference

This campaign, now in its sixteenth year, provides advice and information
on staying warm and well in cold weather. It targets people over sixty,
disabled people and families with young children. More

5. Improving the safety of spinal injury patients
(Gateway reference 3509)
The National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) has announced steps to improve
the safety of patients with established spinal cord injuries during hospital
stays. The guidance addresses the role of manual bowel evacuation as part

7. Care services efficiency delivery programme (CSEDP)

11. Implementing changes to 999 call categorisation (Gateway reference

The Department of Health has issued a definitive list of call determinants
for Category C to underpin the move to local performance monitoring from
1 October 2004. There are also new determinants for Category A and B,
