Human Resources In The NHS Consultation on proposals for new Councils to regulate nursing, midwifery and the health professions On 1 August the Government published, for consultation, its proposals for the new Nursing and Midwifery Council, to replace the United Kingdom Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting and the new Health Professions Council to replace the Council for Professions Supplementary to Medicine. New regulatory structures should have the welfare of patients at their heart and the proposals have been framed with that in mind. The consultation period ends on 1 November 2000. The consultation papers are also be available on the internet by accessing www.doh.gov.uk/nmcconsult/ for the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and www.doh.gov.uk/hpcconsult1 for the Health Professions Council.
