1. LAC(2004)18 - Teenage Pregnancy Local Implementation,
PSHE and Sure Start Plus Grant 2004-05 (Gateway clearance 3375)
This is notification to local authorities of the terms and conditions
for the Teenage Pregnancy Local Implementation, PSHE and Sure Start Plus
Grant and each local authority's allocation. The grant includes allocations
to 35 local authorities within the 20 Sure Start Plus pilot programmes,
and allocations to all authorities to fund teachers on a Continuing Professional
Development (CPD) Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) certification

2. Consultation on proposed changes to the system
of Residential Care Charges (Gateway clearance 3401)
Directors of Social Services and Chief Executives of Care Trusts are advised
that proposed changes to the system of Residential Care Charges have been
issued for consultation on the Department of Health website. Read

The Department of Health has issued two documents about the implementation
of guidance from the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE):
a report from the National Cancer Director on uptake of cancer drugs,
and a statement from Lord Warner on action to support implementation.

8. MINAP (Gateway clearance 3343)
The Myocardial Infarction National Audit Project's (MINAP) third Public
Report has been published at: www.rcplondon.ac.uk/news/news.asp?PR_id=220
The report shows hospitals' performance against the NSF standard and the
PPF target for heart attack. The national clinical director for heart
disease has written to all chief executives on this issue. Read

9. Power Failure Resilience (Gateway clearance

NHS Estates are undertaking a survey of acute and ambulance trusts to
evaluate the level of resilience to major electrical power outage across
the NHS. This has been sent directly to directors of facilities and estates.

The Research Governance Framework 2nd edition was published in 2003. It
applies to both health and social care. Following consultation, a final

11. Clinical Governance e-bulletin (Gateway clearance

The General Medical Council has launched a new monthly e-bulletin entitled
The GMC and clinical governance . This aims to give regular updates on
their current reform programme and inform clinical governance colleagues

13. Pharmaceutical Tender Awarded (Gateway clearance
3399)
A tender has been awarded to Pharmacy HealthLink, The Royal Pharmaceutical
Society of Great Britain, the Faculty of Public Health and the UK Public
Health Association for the development of a Pharmaceutical Public Health
Strategy that is fully integrated with the Government's overall approach
to improving public health.
