NHS and social care interest
1. Proposals to charge overseas visitors for primary
medical services (Gateway reference 2971)
The Government has launched a consultation document setting out proposals
to introduce charges for overseas visitors who use primary medical services.
The aim is to have a clear set of rules, which everyone can understand
and which can be operated and enforced sensibly, with the least possible
bureaucracy.
The consultation runs until 13 August. Read

3. Patient safety: infusion devices (Gateway reference
2926)
The National Patient Safety Agency has issued a safer practice notice
and supporting toolkit to reduce the risk of patient safety incidents
involving infusion devices. A pilot study in six acute trusts has demonstrated
significant potential for improving safety while making savings of up
to £120,000 per annum per organisation. www.npsa.nhs.uk/advice
