2. Consultant contract ready reckoner: Gateway reference
1864
An amended version of the consultant contract ready reckoner, which has
resolved previous problems with calculating pro-rata rates of supplements
for part-time consultants, is now available.

3. Draft directions on fully funded NHS continuing
care: Gateway reference is 1898
Draft directions explaining SHAs' and PCTs' roles and responsibilities
for fully funded NHS continuing care have been placed on the joint unit
website for consultation until 10 October 2003.
Directions regarding the requirement to assess for continuing care prior
to issue of a section 2 notice were also placed on the website on 30 July
2003 for consultation until 19 September 2003.

4. Housing and care for older people: extra care housing
fund - Gateway reference 1900
Minister Stephen Ladyman announced, On 2 July, this new fund to be run
by the Department of Health in partnership with the Housing Corporation,
supported by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.
The Department of Health is now inviting bids for 2004-2005, to be made
by councils with social services responsibilities by 17 November 2003.

6. Local gateway controls introduced by strategic
health authorities (SHA): Gateway reference 1885
Local gateway controls are being introduced by SHAs following discussions
with ministers and the Cabinet Office about tackling bureaucracy at a
local level. The Department of Health has produced a pack to help with
their implementation, which also contains a list of SHA contacts.

7. Doctors in non-consultant career grades: Gateway
reference 1890
Choice and Opportunity: Modernising Medical Careers for Non-Consultant
Career Grade doctors consultation document has been published. The report
contains recommendations to improve arrangements to ensure non-consultant
career grade doctors fulfil their potential and are not left behind by
proposed reforms to medical training.

8. Chief executive leadership lessons: Gateway reference

9. Single assessment process (SAP) for older people:
Gateway reference 1895
Chief executives of PCTs and Care Trusts and directors of social services
are advised that the accreditation of "off-the-shelf" assessment
tools designed for use at the overview stage of the SAP for older people
has started.

10. Modern Matrons' £2million A&E patient
experience fund released - Gateway reference 1803
Every A&E matron can claim £10,000 per department from their
lead PCT, to spend in consultation with patients. Matrons will be asked
to submit brief reports to their SHA, describing how the money has been
spent.

The Commission for Patient and Public Involvement in Health (CPPIH) launches
its campaign on 25 August 2003 to recruit members for almost 600 new PPI
forums.
