1. Volunteer health advisers for Southern Iraq (Gateway
reference 2642)
Four volunteer senior health advisers (director level) are wanted by the
Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) in Southern Iraq to work alongside
the Iraqi administration in developing plans for health services. Volunteers
must have experience of strategic development in health services or public
health and be able to start work almost immediately for a period of up
to six months. Chief executives are asked if they can help identify any
suitable volunteers who will need their endorsement for release.

2. Priority review of primary care 24/48 delivery
(Gateway reference 2646)
The 24/48 primary care access target is high-profile and one of just two
health Public Service Agreement targets due in 2004. Accordingly, a Priority
Review similar to the Six Month Target Review is being undertaken jointly
with the Prime Minister's Delivery Unit.
This review is looking at current performance management, incentives,
support programmes and risks. It will include questionnaires or visits
to selected SHAs and PCTs, who will be contacted shortly. The outcome
will be reported to the Prime Minister in March.
