1. The NHS Improvement Plan: Putting People at the
Heart of Public Services (Gateway reference 3398)
The Department of Health has published its vision for the next phase of
The NHS Plan. The NHS Improvement Plan - Putting People at the Heart of
Public Services sets out plans for a more responsive, convenient, higher
quality and personalised health service by 2008. Chief executives are
asked to communicate the plan's vision, key themes and messages to all
staff and key stakeholders. Read

3. The Independent Reviewing Officers (IRO) guidance
and regulations (Gateway reference 3434)
The regulations come into force on 27 September 2004. IROs are a requirement
arising from the Adoption and Children Act 2002. The regulations update
the Review of Children's Cases Regulations 1991 by introducing the role

5. Host PCTs for NHS Foundation Trusts (NHSFTs) -
implementing clawback under Payment by Results (PbR) (Gateway reference
3133)
The Department of Health has identified a host PCT for each first wave
NHSFT. Under PbR during 2004/05, host PCTs collect clawback from NHSFTs
on behalf of the Secretary of State. Read

6. Extra dates for training on contracting with and
by NHS Foundation Trusts (Gateway reference 3437)
Extra contract management courses will be run in London on 12 July and
in Leeds on 21 July. This course is aimed at managers from all NHS organisations
involved with implementing new legally-binding contracts for NHSFTs. Read

7. The report of the independent inquiry, commissioned
by Lambeth PCT, into the care and treatment of "D" (Gateway
reference 3435)
The inquiry team investigated events leading up to a homicide committed
by "D" in July 2000. At the time, "D" was in receipt
of mental health services in Lambeth. Available at

The Department of Health has commissioned a learning and knowledge sharing
project to promote the Commission for Race Equality's (CRE) guide Race
