1. 2003/04 information governance measures for acute
trusts (Gateway reference 2652)
Acute hospital trusts are required to report the 2003/04 information governance
measures on-line via the new NHS web-based Information Governance (IG)
toolkit. Assessments should be completed on-line and signed off by chief
executives by 31 March 2004. The IG toolkit was launched in November 2003.
It provides guidance and assessment tools for all information governance
areas and is at http://nww.nhsia.nhs.uk/infogov/igt/

2. Clinical Excellence Awards - important change

3. Draft Audit Code for NHS Foundation Trusts
(Gateway reference 2686)
The independent regulator of NHS Foundation Trusts (FTs) has published
its consultation on the draft audit code for NHS FTs, a copy of which
has been sent to Wave 1 applicants for FT status. Comments are welcome
from chief executives of other trusts by 27 February. Contact Stephen

Aimed at senior managers from PCTs, NHS trusts and SHAs who will be implementing
new legally binding contracts for NHS Foundation Trusts. Priority will

9. Monitoring junior doctors' hours - March 2004 (Gateway

Directors of performance management have been reminded of the next collection
of trust data on junior doctors' hours in March 2004. This data contributes
to performance indicators and are useful markers for European Working

10. Change in funding arrangements for childcare
and return to practice (Gateway reference 2661)
From 2004/05, funding for these initiatives will be included in PCT baseline
allocations - formerly they were funded by ring-fenced SHA budgets. From
April 2004 PCTs will need to determine the appropriate investment in these
areas, working in partnership with SHA Workforce Development Confederations

15. National Patient Safety Agency's framework for
prioritising and allocating resources (Gateway reference 2684)
The National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) is building a transparent framework
with which to assess and prioritise the work it undertakes and how it
allocates resources. Following consultation in 2003, the NPSA is holding
regional consultative meetings, inviting patient and voluntary groups
as well as health care professionals.
