2. New NHS health check from 2006 (Gateway reference 4242)
The Healthcare Commission has launched its consultation on proposals to introduce a new health check for the NHS, which will replace 'star' ratings from 2005/6, but will still provide an annual rating of performance. Its consultation document Assessment for improvement proposes a new approach to assessing NHS and independent healthcare sector performance. Understanding the standards outlines the suggested elements, prompts and evidence that could be used to show how organisations are meeting the standards. The patient/public summary draws together information directly applicable to them. The consultation ends 21 February. To read the documents visit http://consultation.healthcarecommission.org.uk/site/index.php
