NHS counter fraud and security management specialists to access relevant
documents, records and data to successfully and efficiently conclude their
investigations.

3. Introduction to today's NHS (Gateway
reference 4086)
Following the HR Director's Bulletin of 25 August 2004, there is an expectation
that all NHS organisations will integrate Introduction to today's NHS
into their current induction process. The Workforce Programme Board
and the Department of Health have asked NHSU to report the take up of

4. Mental Health Supported Capital Expenditure (Revenue)

6. Chlamydia screening - the first steps... (Gateway

The first annual report of the National Chlamydia Screening Programme
(NCSP) in England, 2003/4 has been published. The NCSP is the first such
nationally-organised programme in Europe and confirms the Government's

8. General medical services - standard contract (Gateway
reference 3942)
A revised GMs standard contract has been published, incorporating changes
introduced via recent regulations that amended the existing GMs contract
regulations. This new contract, and a standard contract variation document
that can be used by PCTs to vary existing GMs contracts is available.

9. Patient Environment Action Team (PEAT) assessments
2005 (Gateway reference 4072)
The PEAT 2005 assessment round will commence on 1 December 2004. Details
have been sent to directors of estates. The assessments form the basis
of the key 'hospital cleanliness indicator' in the 2005 Star Ratings;
it is therefore vital that the timescales set out in the letter are adhered
to.

10. HL v UK (Bournewood) - court case decision
(Gateway reference 4013)
This recent judgment of the European Court of Human Rights may have implications
for NHS trusts admitting patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.

11. Online defect and failure reporting system (Gateway
reference 4049; ROCR/OR/0117)
NHS Estates has launched an estates-related, patient safety, online reporting
system for incidences detailed in section 2.0 of NHS Estates Alert NHSE(2004)01.
This system helps inform the Safety Alert Broadcast System (SABS) and
is similar to the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency's

12. Commissioning learning disability services close

The Healthcare Commission and the Department have noted a growing number
and size of often remote, independent sector hospitals for people with
learning disabilities. A clarification note for commissioners and regulation

This new independent subsidiary of the NHS Confederation was established
on 31 October 2004 as a body to act as the authoritative voice for the
NHS on employment and human resources issues, and to empower NHS employers
