2. At Least Five A Week - report on physical activity and health (Gateway reference 2389)
The report, which includes a call to action for PCT chief executives from the chief medical officer, sets out the global research evidence on the importance of physical activity for public health and how agencies, including the NHS, can work together to support more active lifestyles.

3. Regulation of opticians - proposals for the reform of statutory regulation (Gateway reference 3101)
The Department of Health has published proposals for the reform of the statutory regulation of opticians. A full public consultation on the proposals commenced on 30th April 2004 and will run until 30 July 2004. Chief Executives are asked to ensure awareness of this consultation within their organisation.

4. Increased NHS Sight Test Fee (Gateway reference 3212)
A three-year deal has been agreed to increase the NHS Sight Test Fee. The new fees become payable on 6 May but can be backdated to 1 April 2003. Read further details >

6. National Patient Safety Agency launches Incident Decision Tree (Gateway reference 3222)
A new decision-maker's tool has been launched to help NHS managers determine the best course of action for dealing with a member of staff following a patient safety incident. The tool is designed for use in secondary/tertiary care, mental health and ambulance services. More at www.npsa.nhs.uk/idt

7. Market Scoping Study - Children's Services (Gateway reference 3218)
As announced in Every child matters: next steps, the Government is commissioning a study to scope the market for providing children's services. We will involve stakeholders in the steering group and make findings available. Chief executives may be contacted for information and advice. Read more >

9. Project team created to help trusts meet A&E target (Gateway reference 3160)
The Department of Health has created the Emergency Care Project Team (ECPT), combining DH and Modernisation Agency initiatives, which will provide co-ordinated, central support to NHS trusts for improving patient care experience and meeting the four-hour A&E target. Read more >

10. NHS Information Revolution - launch of new website (Gateway reference 3228)
A new central reference point for health professionals has been launched. Providing Building on the Best policy context, it introduces current and forthcoming communications tools delivering the NHS Information Revolution, including NHS Direct Digital TV and forthcoming health guides for older people - Prime for Men and Prime for Women.
