1. Diabetes National Service Framework: One Year On
(Gateway reference 2785)
It is now one year since implementation of the National Service Framework
for Diabetes began. An overview of progress towards the vision of future
diabetes services set out in the NSF - "National service Framework
for Diabetes: One Year On" - will be published on the DH website
on 8 April at www.dh.gov.uk/PolicyAndGuidance/HealthAndSocialCareTopics/Diabetes
This will be of particular interest to local diabetes leads. For further

3. Children's Services Conference, 13 May 2004

The NHS Modernisation Agency is hosting a national conference aimed at
senior clinicians and managers to showcase examples of modernisation in
children's services to help support the implementation of the Children's
National Service Framework (NSF) and the Green Paper. For further information

4. Establishing and Developing Cardiac Networks

This document offers criteria for cardiac network development and explains
how central resources currently held by the CHD Collaborative will be
devolved to cardiac networks that demonstrate sufficient development against

5. Drug misuse treatment and star ratings (Gateway
reference 3027)
Drug misuse treatment is now part of the star ratings for PCTs. The National
Treatment Agency (NTA) is coordinating a mini-census of information held
about numbers in treatment in 2003/04. Treatment agencies are being sent
information for checking/updating in April. For further information, please

7. NHS involvement in investigations of fatal incidents
in prison (Gateway Reference 3050)
From 1st April, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman is assuming responsibility
for investigating the deaths of individuals in prison custody, resident
in probation hostels, in immigration detention or under escort. Guidance
