2. 2/6/00 Safety, Privacy And Dignity In Mental Health
Units: Guidance On Mixed Sex Accommodation For Mental Health Services
In Modernising Mental Health Services, the Government outlined
its vision for
safe, sound and supportive mental health services for working age adults.
As part of
the strategy to provide safe services, NHS Trusts need to ensure that
all patients are
protected from physical, psychological or sexual harm while they are being
treated in
mental health facilities, and to recognise that the needs of male and
female patients
may be different. This guidance outlines the practical steps which NHS
staff should
take to ensure the safety, privacy and dignity of patients, and suggests
good practice
for building design.

5. 5/6/00 LAC(2000)15: The Quality Protects Programme:
Transforming Children's
Services 2000/01 - District Council's Role
This circular gives details of the Government's Quality Protects programme
for transforming children's services and the role that district councils
have in achieving its aims and objectives.
The Quality Protects programme is a key part of the Government's wider
strategy for tackling social exclusion and childhood poverty. It focuses
on working with some of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable children
in our society. Those children looked after by councils; in the child
protection system; and other children in need receiving support from social
services departments. It complements and reinforces other key programmes
including: Sure Start; Youth Offending Teams; Education Action Zones;
Health Improvement Programmes; and programmes to support families.
