NHS and social care interest

1. Identify, recruit and develop leaders of the future (Gateway reference 3469)
Gateway to Leadership is designed to help chief executives recruit graduate managers with an outstanding management track record gained outside the NHS. This scheme may interest chief executives with challenging posts to fill. More at www.gatewaytoleadership.nhs.uk

2. Consultation on reimbursement prices for generic medicines (Gateway reference 3493)
The Department of Health is seeking comments on further reductions in the prices of four specified generic medicines: Simvastatin, Omeprazole, Lisinopril and Doxazosin. If accepted the proposed prices would be implemented with effect from 1 September 2004.

NHS interest

3. Supplementary independent sector procurement year 1 - (G Supp 1) (Gateway reference 3481)
For the attention of strategic health authority chief executives. As part of the improvements being negotiated between Nuffield and Capio and the NHS a simpler, more local referral process has been agreed. It should be implemented immediately. 4. Joint statement - implementation date of Agenda for Change (Gateway reference 3472)
A joint statement has identified that the operational date for moving the first staff on to the new terms and conditions outside the early implementer sites will be 1 December, with an effective date of 1 October. Read more >

Social care interest

5. New social care tsar (Gateway reference 3499)
Kathryn Hudson will join the department in August as the first national director for social care. This new role is based within the strategy directorate and Kathryn's responsibilities will include strengthening the department's relationships with social care and ensuring that all policy takes account of social care implications from the outset. Kathryn is currently director of social services at Newham Council.

8. Funding for abortion services 2004/05 (Gateway reference 3457)
Primary care trusts sexual health leads have been asked to complete a questionnaire about abortion waiting times and commissioning policies. They are also invited to bid for funding for abortion services by 13 August. Read more >

10. New care record development board (Gateway reference 3488)
The new board will bring together patients, public, social and health care professionals to provide clinical and patient input into the development of IT by the National Programme for IT. It replaces the National Programme's Patient Advisory Board and National Clinical Advisory Board. More at www.npfit.nhs.uk/crdb/
